In March 2019 H.H Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa stepped down as President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC).
The decision, was made in order to devote himself to the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, which he is also the Chairman of.
H.H Shaikh Nasser, is an established athlete in his own right - in endurance racing – and has been the leading figure in promoting endurance sports across the Kingdom of Bahrain, where in 2018 he became World Ironman Champion (Military Division).
Dating back to 2006, HH Shaikh Nasser led the Bahrain National Endurance Team at the Doha Asian Games. Achieving a silver medal in the individual race with the 6-member Bahraini squad also achieving a creditable silver medal in the overall team event.
Since then HH Shaikh Nasser’s has been instrumental in the promotion of endurance sports across the Kingdom of Bahrain, whilst being a leading advocate for healthy living through exercise and participation in sports.
HH Shaikh Nasser’s inspiration has helped grow participation as well the number of events in the Kingdom of Bahrain ever since.
Thanks to this, the Kingdom of Bahrain has built a burgeoning reputation on the global scene. Thanks to the Ironman 70.3 Middle East Championship in Bahrain - which began in 2016 - the annual race which attracts over 1000 participants each year, now brings a significant contribution to the nation’s economy.
As a result of HH Shaikh Nasser’s contribution, we decided to launch the Bin Faqeeh Boost Run in 2018 to help continue to grow the athletic community across the Kingdom of Bahrain including all and has proved a resounding success since its inauguration.
We’d like to thank HH Shaikh Nasser for his tireless work in this area and we look forward with great anticipation as to his impact in his role on the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports.
