The Kingdom of Bahrain has celebrated the 48th national day with great enthusiasm, pride and happiness. On December 16, 1971, Bahrain gained its independence, Sheikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa became the first ruler of Bahrain and he was the country's leader. During his 38-year reign, he was able to lead Bahrain into its national economic transformation, which by then made Bahrain an important financial center in the Arabian Gulf. 

The 16th of December became a very special day to the Kingdom of Bahrain since then. Celebrations for National Day in Bahrain take place on the December 16th annually. National Day in Bahrain is celebrated the entire month of December with fireworks, festivals, carnivals and other festivities. 

Bahraini citizens participated in festivities to mark the 48th Bahrain’s National Day. Organizations and schools hold special Independence Day festivals and activities, roads, cars and buildings were beautifully decorated. The whole country had a lovely carnival atmosphere. For some locals, Bahrain National Day is an opportunity to enjoy time with their families and celebrate the nation that they live in. 

Bahrain National Day celebrations also included entertainment programs, stalls showcasing Bahraini handicrafts, cultural shows that reflected the traditional Bahraini heritage, horse rides, face painting, water sports, parachute jumping. Also, an air show featuring F-16 fighter planes, live concerts and much more. 

The National Day of Bahrain is observed by the people as a day of joy for all Bahrainis celebrated to mark the day of the country's independence and its former king's ascension to the throne.
