This year, Eid Al Fitr began on 24th of May 2020 and ended on 26th of May 2020. The festival of Eid al-Fitr, the Festival of Fast-breaking, is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting.  The holiday celebrates the conclusion of the 29 or 30 days of dawn-to-sunset fasting during the entire month of Ramadan. However, with the COVID-19 pandemic, gatherings were prohibited for this year’s Eid Al Fitr celebration, and everyone were encouraged and mandated to stay indoors.

“BeAware Bahrain” App was launched by the information and eGovernment Authority’s (iGA) with combined effort from National Taskforce to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 by active contact tracing and keeping track of all active and new cases, to ensure the health and safety of all citizens and residents.

The application uses location data to alert its users when they are in close proximity with an active case or when they are in a location where the active case has visited. COVID-19 test results can also be found on the app. It also provides real time updates of summary of cases in the Kingdom and globally, as well as directives from the Ministry of Health.

The Feena_Khair campaign is a national effort that was established to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, which was led by HRH Prince Salman Bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, and following the directives of the Representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian and Youth Affairs, HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Royal Humanitarian Foundation (RHF). A dedicated bank account was established for donations from the Kingdom’s private sectors and individuals. The initiative which is a part of the early preparations of the Kingdom has been widely recognized, including from the World Health Organization (WHO).

His Majesty the King made the health of citizens and residents a top priority and ordered that a large budget be allocated to safeguard the national economy, and everyone in the Kingdom. This has made the Kingdom of Bahrain emerged as one of the leading countries to combat the pandemic.
